Central Heating

Unvented system with small pressure loss - no leak.

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.44 PM

Hi, I have recently changed my heating setup from a system boiler, water cylinder and cold water storage to an system boiler and unvented cylinder. It has been on for a couple of weeks now and have noticed the pressure drops after every 2/3 days. We have checked for leaks and can't find anything. Actually it varies, the first time the pressure dropped was after 1 day but then next time it was 3 days later. With the pressure loss, this is over 5 litres of water and we would of seen this and we can't. The installer mentioned as it's a complete new system, it can take a few weeks for the system to bleed itself. My boiler is in the loft and they mentioned air rises so any air will be going to the boiler which will automatically be bleeding it. Is this correct? Can it take a few weeks to bleed itself?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The new boiler will have an inbuilt automatic air vent so yes, it can be expected on a new boiler installation for air to work it's way out of the air vent for a few weeks after installation. If it persists after a few weeks you'll need to get it checked out properly. Try bleeding all radiators as this will help
