Plastering over a rendered wall.
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.44 PM
Hey fellow plasterers, I've got a job where the customers has had an extension previously, so one of their walls used to be an external wall, the wall is rendered (slightly rough). My question is : Can I PVA and multifinish straight over? The texture is no worse than an artex ceiling and the customer wants to wallpaper straight over the skimmed wall. I only ask as I've never done it before. Cheers.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Wall needs to be free of any moss or any other materials .I would use blue grit rather than PVA. Blue grit needs to be applied day before skimming

I would give it two good coats of ova then wait till it’s sticky then apply a thick mix of multi finish finish first followed by a thinner second coat and it would be as smooth as any other wall that’s been plastered. Also never use bonding or hardwall on a ground floor as it draws up damp easily.

Personally I would look to dab sheets onto the wall and then skim them.
At a push I would pva, then a thin layer of bonding b4 skimming, this is what I do on breeze block walls and it's always been fine.

As long as its dry and clean I dont see why not, might be worth giving it a quick coat of hardwall first.

Best to use tight coat of bonding as multi over a stipple will always show through pva before each coat
