Moved in to property and found "Electrical installation at risk" sticker
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.44 PM
I have just moved into a new property and found a sticker with Scottish Gas’s logo stating an electrical installation is deemed at risk. It’s in the cabinet housing the electricity meter and fuse box along with a disused security alarm system and a switch which doesn’t seem to do anything. The property is a flat / apartment in a tenement building which was converted in 2004. Should I be concerned or is this likely to be historic?

Phone Scottish gas and ask them they will have a log of the issue.
Failing that get a sparky to check your electric.

It's always worth having an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) undertaken on a property either prior to purchasing or once completed.
This will let you know how the Electrical Installation is in terms of safety.
Prior to purchasing means you are aware of any potential issues/costs associated with the Electrical Installation before commiting to buying.
An EICR is recommended atleast once every 10 years in a domestic property that is not rented - it will give you a detailed report on every aspect of your Electrical Installation. It will highlight any issues found with an easy to follow coding system - this allows you to prioritise those issues that are deemed essential to fix and others that are simply recommendations.
Think of it as an MOT for your wiring - you want to know that everything is safe and nothing needs replacing/updating.

I concur with the above. First contact Scottish Gas. For piece of mind I would get an Electrical report completed. This will also highlight any other, if any deficiencies in your electrical set up.
