Laminate upstand cut out protection near gas hob
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.45 PM
Laminate upstands will be cut out around the gas hob. I've been told the 6mm toughened glass splashback would go in between the cut outs and to stick a matching edging strip to provide protection to the exposed core of the upstand. However would the edging strip be efficient so close the the hob? If not what should I use?

Hi
In this situation we would mitre the laminate upstand at a 45 degree angle and return the upstand into the hob wall creating a nice finish and protecting the exposed core of the laminate. The glass splash back can then be stuck to the wall.

Your fitter should be able to fit the upstand and not use edging strip they should mitre the edge so no timber is showing

Yes the edging would be sufficient or I would cut it at 45 degrees and return it back to wall

Usually it would be 100mm to 150mm away from the heat of the gas hob. To allow sufficient air flow. This should be more and enough space so you don’t get damaged edges.
