Weird scratch/ grinding noise coming from kitchen ceiling near boiler

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.26 PM

I have heard faint grinding noise/ similar to someone scratching a piece of wood coming from one area of my kitchen ceiling. The noise tends to stop when my boiler stops powereing up but it's not constant. The bathroomm is above and you can't hear these noise in the bathroom. I'm pretty sure it's not vermin as there are no poo anywhere. the noises sound like a pipe under pressure as if it rubbing against a wall. Any advice. This is the first time I have heard this noise problem. Any sensible advice would be appreciated.

I would say the pipes are not clipped down correctly and their is movement. In the pipes down to expansion or vibration

The grinding noise is usually caused by hot water pipes that's to close or directly on your floor joists. And that will normally be heard as soon as the boiler is fired up. To remedy this you need to expose and wrap the pipes and make sure you have some space between the pipes and the joists. Hope this is helpful.

When the pipes get hot they make that cracking noise, its because pipes are passing through the joice, the holes are to tight.
