Replacement of old imperial-sized rads with new ones

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.25 PM

Hi, We are looking to replace three very aged, poor-performing rads with new ones with TRVs as we've recently had a new boiler installed and want to make the most of it. I am having real problems finding suitable metric-sized rads to replace the old imperial-sized ones. This is made more difficult by the fact that two of these rads are type 11s which I want to change to type 21 or even better type 22s (space dependent). Is a solution to get as close as possible to the imperial measurements then use tail extensions/replace pipework as necessary? I'd prefer not to use Myson Premier HE imperial rads as they are very expensive and I'm still struggling to find the right sizes. NB we also have two other more modern rads that need replacing at the same time. Any help appreciated!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

tail extensions can be used to make up the size difference on like for like radiators but when going from singles to doubles the pipes are also further out from the skirting board better to get someone to check it and see if there are other options

Pipe extensions cam be helpful but as the other gentleman suggested it can be difficult when the radiator has the added dimension of bieng a panel thicker. This obviously would require alteration of the pipework, and probably draining down the system
