Can I take the rim off a EN FD101?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.41 PM
I’m trying to change my downlight to a pendant light. The electrics have been rewired and they work but I cannot get the white rim of the EN FD101 fitting so that the pendant’s bar can sit flush to the ceiling. The rim seems to be attached by a round screw with no means of gaining traction (screwdriver or spanner).
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hard to understand quite what you are doing but I think you will have to remove the downlight from the ceiling completely if you need to get the mounting bar of another light flush with the ceiling. The rim is an integral part of that fitting. You have to pull it down against its 'wings' which are spring loaded. Once you have the fitting out od the way you can re-connect your electrics and put the new fitting up (assuming it covers the hole!) If not designed to cover a hole in the ceiling you should really made it good first.

As Robin Hoad said you need to pull the entire fitting out of the ceiling but there will be a hole when it is removed. Its actually a 'can' that has a fixed bezel.

Some lights do come with external rim so it's depends what type of light fittings are those it's hard to tell and also I'm agreed with Robin Hoad
