Unable to trace leak ourselves, how can we tell if it's under concerete floor?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.40 PM

Puddle of water appeared under our kitchen lino last weekend and it's happened a further two times since, we ve ran the kitchen appliances multiple times and it doesn't seem to correlate with them draining or with using our toilet/sink upstairs. We got a new combi boiler fitted at the beginning of the month (previous system from the 70s), have we potentially caused a leak in a hidden pipe by getting the new boiler and if so how can we trace it if it doesn't appear to be any pipes we can see? Our home insurance excess is £750+ so need to know what the problem is to know if we should just get a trade in ourselves.

You’ll be able to tell if it’s the heating circuit that’s leaking because you’ll be losing pressure from the boiler and having to top it up regularly. It could alternatively be the hot water distribution pipe that’s leaking as would have likely been under low pressure prior to the combi boiler going in, and will now be under mains pressure so could have found a weak spot.

The best advice I can give you is to contact the the person who installed it, may be considered a recall and some have lifetime guarantees. If you didn't have the leak before the work but do now may be connected or alternatively it may be underfloor heating. A listening stick may work. Good luck
