Flashing around Chimney/dry ridge junction: over or under ridge?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

My roofer has put the flashing over the dry ridge at one end (where it abuts a neighbour's wall) and underneath it at the other (where it abuts our chimney). Which is right?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

None are wrong and both are right as long as the lead is lapped over lead soakers up the wall or chimney and nothing can blow rain underneath the lead.

Either as long as there’s enough cover to make the job watertight I always finish my lead underneath ridge to hide lead to make in look neater personal preference really Thanks mark

To ensure a water tight finnish it is always best to remove the ridge tile next to the chimney and put a lead saddle over the ridge plate and the re bed on the ridge. This creates 2 barriers for the water to penotrate insuring us and the customer that the job is done to a professional standard
