Blocked air vents at rear of house
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.02 PM
A company came to pave the front and back yard of my semi detached. They raised the level of my back yard blocking the air bricks that were there. Is the three at the front of the house enough to ventilate? There are none on the side of property I feel the company was a cowboy outfit of course and that they won't return. My kitchen/diner at the back has a hollow floor. I'm worried sick, are the bricks at the front sufficient? Or as I suspect I'm going to have to somehow find another few thousand to repair. Or any other alternative. Thankyou

definitely not enough ventilation to your under floor void, the outside ground level should be 150mm below your damp proof course. depending on how high they have gone will determine the solution, you maybe able to cut a channel along the house next to the wall you may have to redo the lot, without a site visit by a experienced damp expert its not really possible to be sure what the best solution maybe.
good luck Alex

Any paving professional should know not to block any air vents, there's a reason why the vents are situated where they are on a property. Definitely cowboys that you hired I'm afraid.

You definitely had Cowboys ventilation on front and back of property allows air to circulate if air is not circulating it will cause damp and moist I would get a damp course specialist to look at this and This person will be able to resolve this problem Hope you get it sorted
