outdoor light side of front door. Does this mean disruption to inside home decor
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.43 PM
I would like a new installation of mains powered motion sensor lights at the side of my front door with no wires showing on the exterior. Does this mean I will have disruption to the inside decor - need to replaster redecorate etc
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Not if it’s done in surface trunking, it’s not possible inside or outside to hide the cabling and as you don’t want any chasing in of cables on the inside, which is the only way to make the cabling ‘invisible’ then I really dont know what to suggest.

It depends on the skill of the electrician as to how to limit the amount of destruction of decor, particularly drilling holes through the wall. I have successfully, with careful measurement, drilled holes that emerge inside the house in the gap between the wall and the plasterboard so you don't see any damage whatsoever. Each situation will be different, its a matter of looking carefully at the potential cable route and planning how it can be achieved. Ultimately, if some damage is inevitable, then its then down to how skilled the person doing the making good is at doing it and how fussy you are. If you are prepared to pay decent money for a decent careful skilled tradesman, anything is possible. If cheap price is your driving force then the method chosen is likely to look cheap. Pride in workmanship is what drives me. Its your decision as to how imporant the job is to you and how much your willing to pay.

Please consider we have 3 options 1-wiring by trunk /conduit or 2-hard wire means need chase the wall if you would not like both than means you need to forgot the light with main power
3-The only option is solar light

Unless you're lucky enough to have a switch with a feed on the otherside of the light. Other than that then you may be able to spur from an upstairs socket and use some 20m conduit outside.
