Shoot bolt door mechanism works but door won’t lock

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.43 PM

Hi, I am hoping you can help me. I have a double PVC door where one side has a multi point lock and the second has a shoot bolt lock. The 2nd door’s mechanism with the shoot lock works fine it terms of the top and bottom bolt moving freely with the door handle. However the mechanism won’t lock in place when the door lock is locked with a key. (I.e. even when the key is turned to lock, the handle still moves freely moving the shoot bolts up and down). Do you have any idea what could be wrong? Thanks for your help

If the mechanism is throwing correctly with the door open and you're able to lift the handle smoothly and turn the key fully and lock the door in an open position, but unable to do so when the door is shut, this is 100% an alignment issue.

Sounds like French doors. If slave door is fine then it means that the master door requires alignment. It is also possible that both need to be re-aligned and not just mechanically. You either need to find someone that deals with uPVC repairs that will come and look at the toe/heel of the glass to ensure it hasn't dropped before hinges are addressed and re-aligned.
