Wildy varying quoted radiator sizes
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.43 PM
Hi, I'm looking for new radiators in our master bedroom and living room. I've received quotes and estimates for the BTU/Watts of both rooms from shops but they differ by 100%! Living room: 37.8 m2, height 2.4m, 8.9m2 double glazed windows Master bedroom: 21.2 m2, height 2.4m, 3.3m2 double glazed windows Happy to provide more info if helpful. Can anyone advise how much power I really need? Best regards

Hi, there are many different BTU calculators online. We normally use the link below https://www.diy.com/ideas-advice/calculators/btu-radiator-calculator
Hope this helps.

Whilst their are proper heat calculations that can be done by heating engineers a simple rule of thumb will probably help you better.
Most radiators go under the windows of the rooms their in so go by the width of the window opening and usually are 600mm high.
Downstairs radiators are nearly always double panel radiators and upstairs are normally single panel unless the rooms are partially much bigger than the window opening as in old Victorian buildings etc if it's a normal sized 2 or 3 bed house just stick to the rule of thumb
