Damp Proofing

Solid brick wall damp membrane

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.43 PM

Renovation of a 1820 detached cottage and looking at best way to damp proof membrane and insulate internal walls. I was planning on drill and inject / tanking slurry and them Damp proof membrane upto 1m but I was hoping to either batten out walls with dpc behind them and use insulated plasterboards ontop of the battens, but architects drawings show insulation then batten over the top. How would I put a damp proof membrane behind the battens or insulation without damaging it as I don't think it will work. I was thinking of battening it all and then put damp proof membrane in-between the battens and put behind the roll of DPC. Any suggestions? Can't use EWI due to roof. Must be internal

Use tanking membrane then insulated boards over top of that. You are making work for yourself.

Injection is probably the easiest damp proofing procedure ever, so , if you want it , just do it when the walls are available; it is also a very rare occurrence, which means you only have a 15% chance of actually having it, despite having dampness at low level . Tanking slurry , does not stop rising damp , so that’s a waste of time . Rising damp can rise to 900mm but treatment should be to 1.2m minimum . Insulate the walls first then baton and plasterboard, is the correct order.

Fix the damp proof tanking membrane and fix the insulated boards over and fix in position with the plastic plugs, we use the tanking kits from Pam ties Ltd, then plaster over the boards, I would also drill and inject with dpc cream to prevent further water intrusion
