Adding solid fuel stove in attic of old house with existing chimney

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.43 PM

My house is an 1850 build. There is a chimney breast all the way through the house, and these days the only solid fuel stove is in the living room. What I'd like to do is somehow install a new solid fuel stove in the attic room, as there is no central heating up there... plus a fire up there would make it super cosy. The chimney breast is visible on one side of attic space, so, what would be involved? Quite apart from the building/installation challenge, would I also need building regs sign off? And it's a listed building.. (grade 2) not sure if that complicates matters?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Generally you need a minimum of 4.5m for a chimney to work properly. Some stoves will run of lower heights. Your best option would be to find your local Heatas approved installer and seek there advice and experience.

Get hold of a Hetas engineer . Also you need a minimum of 5 inches of a construction al hearth for the fire to sit on
