Pocket door installation
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.45 PM
I have a kitchen door that when open partially covers the door to the utility room. I wondered whether a pocket door would be a solution but don’t really know where to start. Any advise would be appreciated.

If you have a stud wall, a pocket door can easily be installed, subject to any wires or pipes that maybe in the wall. These though can easily be diverted if need be.
A section of wall needs to be removed, twice the size of the door size you would be using. Pocket door frames come as a complete set. A small bit of framing work, the assemble the frame and install. The most important part is making sure the running track at top is 100% level, or the door will run. Once installed, you just install new plasterboard, the fill in finish.
They really are easy to do. Rocket door frames do great kits, and at good price.

Installing pocket doors can be expensive and quite major work especially if one has pipes and cables behind the wall
Also you may not have a stud wall
It could be breeze block or a supporting wall then it is major work
If your on a budget or don’t want major hassle then try looking at a face fixed one
It’s the easiest option
