Condensation in new extension toilet

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.45 PM

Hi, I’ve recently had a new extension put on and a downstairs toilet but into the extension. I’ve notice in the last month that underneath the sink in the cupboard it’s wet all the time. I’ve check all the pipes but it’s condensation. I have an extractor fan but no window or radiators. I brought a de humidifier which seem to work for couple days but as it’s got colder the condensation is worse

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Is there enough air gap between plasterboard and insulation? If not this can cause condensation

The extractor fan isn't going to do anything to change the condensation within a cupboard, sounds silly but maybe a bowel of rice or something like that will pull the moisture out of the air preventing it to condensate. I'd recommend installing some sort of towel.rad to prevent it completely.

Get some heat on in there.

Unfortunately it sounds like a lack of insulation has been used in the extension. Yes, the other answers are correct… get heat in there, use rice ect. But the underlying problem is how the extension was built. I would sugest getting an EPC audit with an additional Thermal Imaging pictures taken. Then you will stand on good grounds in going back to the builder.
