Best way to repaint wooden doors
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.44 PM
I have i internal French doors currently in dark brown colour. I would like to change the colour and would like some advice. I have come across Easy Surface Prep product which means no sanding required. 1. Is ESP the best way to change the colour? 2. Looking for oak colour, any recommendations on a suitable paint product? Thank you

As easy as ESP sounds, it does not work in favour of the wood and sometimes you get “bubbles” due to the fluid left overs it leaves behind in the pores of the wood.
Best bet is sanding, if there is quite a few coats use small amounts of hydrogen peroxide on a sponge and leave for about 10-15 min before scraping.

Sometimes new exciting products don’t do a better job just an easier job which then isn’t as good. I would sand it down like the previous responders have said and get the real wood back and stain

If the surface is in good condition, it just needs a light sanding. In this case one option would be to use a water-based primer (eg. Bullseye) before applying your choice of paint. It depends on the finish you are looking for as there are many stains, chalk paints and gloss, etc
