Insulation

Sagging insulation between rafters in loft

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.25 PM

We have a 3 storey house completed in 2005 that has a bedroom on the top floor with a small loft space above. The whole roof space has been insulated between the rafters with rockwool type insulation but in the loft, which is already a small space, the insulation is sagging as it's only supported by a few battens making the space even smaller/uncomfortable to access. Without wanting to restrict airflow, what would be the best way to hold the insulation back in the loft so that I don't end up brushing along insulation when I go up into the loft? I was considering something like Thermawrap as it should hold it back, can be attached to the rafters and has some thermal properties but I don't know if it would cause more harm than good?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, Pictures would be great but i think i have a good understanding from your description. Thermawrap could possibly work. The airflow is important between the insulation and underside of the tiles/ roofing membrane. However Thermawrap could act as a vapour barrier and increase the relative humidity to unacceptable levels depending on whether the joists have had insulation

Try stapling tyvek to the joist are a good quality membrane This will help hold the insulation in place, is breathable and if done well looks better. 👍🏻
