fix ledgerboard/wall plate to the brick wall

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.25 PM

Hi, For my rear extension flat roof i am planning to fix a ledgerboard/wall plate to the existing rear brick wall and then attach joists to it with hangers and nails. What is the best way to afix it. Using long bolts, drilling and using epoxy or is there a better way, also how many bolts should i use. I have sky/rooflight as well. Thanks.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The method you said is best, you wanna fix at 400mm/600mm centres along the wall plate, but your structural engineer will spec that sort of stuff. Regards Frankie BT Roofing Services Limited

Fixing directly to the brick or block wall I would use chemical resin anchor instead mechanical one. Mechanical anchor with great pressure could easily crack or smash soft or porous material. Make sure you are using the right resin for the right type of material or substrate. Advisible, use correct size of the SDS drill bit usually 1 mm bigger when diameter of your bolt. After the drilling hole try to clean the dust out of the hole using special pumps or use dust extrator. Just follow product installation instructions. Regards Roland ARdesignnconstruction
