Feasibility: Reduce length of stairs

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.25 PM

I’m trying to work out if it is feasible to reduce the length of our staircase to help with a change of layout. The staircase is 2286mm long excluding the landing. The height is of 2286. There are 12 steps with Rise of 190mm and Going of 195mm. I’d like to be able to remove shorten the staircase by 1 step to help with a new layout. Are there any general rules for this type of thing or does any anyone have a instinct on if it’s possible?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You Carnt reduce the amount of steps but you can change the direction to give you the space needed .

Hi with the going be so close to the rise, reducing the overall going wouldn't be possible in its current form. The pitch of the staircase must be less than 45% which you are very close to now. Only a kite winding stairs case would reduce the overall length as long as you have the space to fit the extra width in.
