Gas Works

Do I need to upgrade my gas supply

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.25 PM

Hi, I've just got a new oven with is all gas. I previously had a dual fuel. My new cooker is lighting but as soon as I let go it turns off. Is this because I need to upgrade the gas supply to the oven or does the oven have a fault? Thank you

With new cookers you have to hold down the control knob. Once the flame is lit for atleast 6-8 seconds this will allow the thermocouple to register a flame and keep the gas on. If you still have issues I would contact the supplier or a gas safe engineer to inspect the new cooker installation and cooker itself

The gas engineer who installed it should have instructed you on its operation and commissioned it. I would get the gas engineer back if I were you. Usually what you do is push, turn and hold ,wait until you see a flame ,count to 10 then release. If it goes out there may well be a fault with the thermocouple. Call out the engineer if it is new or call the manufacturer.

If it is a brand new oven, make sure once it has ignited you continue to keep the control lnob pushed in for a good 10 seconds. If itcstill doesn't stay lit then you have a fault with the thermocouple system. It could be a simple matter of an adjustment, or a loose connection. Ring the manufacturers up and book an engineer.
