Can I hang a seat from a bay window ceiling?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.40 PM
My wife wants to hang a swing seat from the underside of our bay window. My question is... is the structure strong enough to hang something heavy like this? What sits behind the ceiling plasterboard? The house is about 15 years old and the bay has a lead roof.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

hi, I certainly wouldn’t advise it, the framework that creates the ceiling on your bay will more than likely not have been made with timber sufficient for load bearing.
You would be better going off a joist from the main ceiling in the room.

Agree with above statement. Might be possible but all depends on what's behind the plaster. Would need someone to take a proper look

As above I wouldn’t advise it personally as seen on past experience in fitting flat to bow windows depending on the external roof finish.. I.E tiled roof or just a flat lead/rubber membrane there very rarely structuraly supported for such a thing as you state
