How should I fix deflection/undulation in my roof?

I'm in the process of buying my first house. It's a little Victorian terraced property with quite a shallow pitched roof. At some point in time, the original slate roof tiles have been replaced with much heavier concrete ones and this has resulted in some undulation in the roof, as well as causing some deflection in the rafters. I'll probably consult a structural engineer, but I was thinking I'd probably need to use props to lift the roof slightly, then put in new struts from the floor to the existing purlin. Does that sound about right? How difficult is this likely to be to do?
