how impartant is it to use shower tray former for tiled wet room
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.56 PM
I am planning or a wet room instead of a bath tub. How important is it to use shower tray former (this 30mm sheet that has waste hole inside) for a wet room. My builder is saying he can do the job without using it but i am bit concerned as alot of plumbers are using it in online video. Please advice and important/crucial bits when installing tiled wet room. Thanks.

the shower tray under the actual tiling is very important, some builders won't necessary need and manually tank the areas under .
however this ready made piece of material is ensuring the right angles for tiler to guide on+ guaranteed tanking under your tiling if fitted correctly.

Shower formers save a lot of time and effort, but if you’re comfortable creating the falls needed in timber, then a good quality 18mm ply will do the job. The most important thing is to tank (waterproof) it properly before you tile onto it. I use both methods depending on the job, but usually only use ply if it’s a linear drain.
Good luck.

Previous answer is good . But depends on the design required you can as previous tank room and tile floor and introduce necessary slopes with tiles. A lot of the time when using shower former you still need to slope surrounding floor for any over spills. And to ensure any water stays within room . . . I personally would tank , screed floor for slopes and the choice of finish,
