I've had a chimney breast removed, what are the ventilation requirement?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.02 PM
Hi. My property has two fireplace, one of which is unused and bricked up. I've recently had a partial chimney breast removal of the 1st floor above the unused place. Both breasts have a shared stack. With the removed breast, there is now a hole where the gasses would have been vented through the stack. In terms of ventilation, should I leave this hole or should I have it cemented up? Thank you kindly

This depends on a number of things.
Number 1 you cannot remove a chimney breast without the following
1 Council building control notice. This is to ensure the structure of your home is checked by s third party
2 you need an engineers report that give full specifications
3 if your coney breast is wider than 1200mm you can't use gallows brackets, must be a steel
4 If your terraced house you may need party wall agreement
