Combi boiler initiates on its own?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.43 PM

Hi hope everyone is well. It's probably nothing but I have 3y old glowworm boiler that makes the noise as if it is going to fire up then doesn't? This happens when neither water or heating is on. It's as if it goes through the start up sequence (5 seconds) then realises nothing has been called for ? I have just had some work done bathroom hot water pipe capped off to bath could this have any effect on boiler. Appreciate any advice. Keep well Regards JR

Some boilers do kick in for a few seconds just to activate the pump to avoid sticky pump But this is usually with older combi boilers and not the new ones with energy saving pumps

Is it possibly a pre-heat function? When the pre-heat function is on, the length of time taken to receive hot water at a tap will be reduced as the boiler will have been kept hot in readiness for a demand

You could find that it is the pre heat for the water so it’s always hot on demand. Ours does this and it is the same sounds like it is going to fire but doesn’t only when we looked further found it does fire but only on a low flame to heat the water.
