What is the best way to remove indian sandstone from patio without breaking it?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.43 PM

I have an unlevel indian sandstone patio, I would like to remove the stones (without breaking them), level it out and put the stones back. The stones were laid on to a full bed of mortar. Can anyone recommend the best technique and tools to do this job? Thanks.

A hammer and bolster is the best tools to use. Break away the mortar and the stone will loosen. Just need to take your time and go lightly so stone doesn’t break

This is going to be hard to do either you can get to a edge part of the slab area and prize then out with a recking bar making sure the mortar is taken away under neath or get a Sthil saw cut the joints and then prize them up you have problems and you will have a lot breakages

Easiest way to remove indian stone without breaking it is to get a bolster and club hammer and slowly break away the pointing then you can get underneath the pointing. It's not an easy job but doable.

The time it takes to clean them with the chances of braking a few your better off to save the time buy the project packs needed time will be save and the time save on cleaning them will probably buy most of what you need but this all depends on size of area
