Hot water in bathroom but not kitchen

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.43 PM

Hi, I can get hot water in the bathroom, but not in the kitchen unless I run the hot in the bathroom. I thought it may be the mixer tap in the kitchen, but I've just fitted a new tap and still have the same issue. Pressures fine and all other functions work as should. It's a Baxi boiler. Reply, I wouldn't say there's much difference in flow-rate, but must be just enough to cause the issue. We've had the boiler 10 years and it's just started without any change. If we put the heating in it works. I guess a good service is needed. Reply, Boiler doesn't fire up if kitchen tap alone is on, but if I turn the heating on, or bathroom/bath tap it works. The boiler is in the attic and flow in the kitchen is more than bath, but the baths fine.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Pipes to taps may have a isolating valve in the run from the Baxi boiler , Does the pipe work get hot on route to the tap ? Strange but I think its a simple solution process, as you have change the tap .

It sounds like a flow rate issue, check the flow rate on the hot side of the kitchen tap against the hot side on the bath tap, some combi boilers require a certain flow rate before they fire up. We had a similar issue, the kitchen or bath tap were ok on the hot side but the shower ran cold (lower flow rate) until I turned the bath tap on, our Alpha combi boiler needed a new diverter valve, job sorted.

Process of elimination, when you make a demand from hot water in kitchen does the boiler fire up? Are the pipes crossed, have you traced them back to the hot? 1st port of call, does the boiler fire when hot water demand is made ?
