Is Speedfit pipe better than copper pipes?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.43 PM

We are replacing central heating pipework and radiators. A plumber quoted for Speedfit pipes under the floor and copper pipes where visible. I want to double check if this is best option for long term? Are the speedfit pipes better than having copper pipes? Or should I insist for copper pipes through out?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Copper pipes throughout would incur a higher labour charge - some may argue that they prefer copper however there is nothing wrong with speed fit if is fitted properly. All new builds are piped like this.

Plastic lasts between 5-25 years. Copper if prepared and soldered properly will last a lifetime. However plastic is faster and the pipe is cheaper however its open to diyers.

You also have to think about location with plastic. Mice can and do chew through plastic but they can’t chew through copper. So if your in a rural area then stick to copper.
