What is the best way to sand doors and woodwork with many layers of paint on them?

Manually grade 60 or 80 alluminium oxide paper and loads of elbow grease,or get your self a palm sander and a detail sander and that will make the job a bit more easier. Failing all, get a decorator to do the job. If you want to go down to bare wood, get some paint stripper and follow all the safety instructions on the tin. Finally you will however need some fine grade sand paper to get a smooth finish. Good luck with the project. Jaspal Bansal Paint-Plus Renovations & Decorators.

Hi Sally that is great advice from paint plus, but also wear a dust mask.....if the woodwork has several layers of paint and the property is an older house chances are lead based paint has been used at some point, so best wear a mask to protect you from breathing in lead based dust particles.
