Painting emulsion over undercoat

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.44 PM

Hi, I made a mistake and painted a wall in undercoat to cover dark patches on a wall, can I paint over it with silk or matt emulsion without cracking etc or do I need to do something else to it first (novice painter)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Oil based undercoat is great for blocking out stains and is cheaper especially big areas only down side is the drying time it can be painted over with either paints mentioned I'd stay away from the silk if it was me

Hello, I would sand where you painted with the undercoat and paint over with the other paint, either silk or emulsion. probably you will need at least 2 coats. I hope it helps, good luck

Absolutely, an undercoat is just to provide a stable base for a topcoat. Some are intended for metal and wood, but the principal is the same.

Yes. A light rub down of the undercoat, dust off, and two coats of chosen emulsion should do the trick.
