do we put concrete subfloor first or erect wall upto roof level

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.44 PM

Hi my builder is suggesting to erect wall both brick and block upto roof level before puttin concrete subfloor in so at the moment he has just levelled existing ground for subfloor but didnt do anything else, no hardcore no binding and no concrete. He is saying he will erect walls first as thats how its suppose to be. I thought we were suppose to lay subfloor first then walls. Please advice.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

In an ideal world the substructure would be complete before you start to erect your cavity walls, if it was a block and beam floor for example it would have to be done before as you can’t continue past that level without the floor being in. However your builder may have his own reasoning for doing it after just insure that as the walls are going up, the internal block work includes the the DPM over hang for when the floor goes in.

It can be done before or after. I always find it easier before as the walls are in the way but its up to the builder?

I think it's always better to do it before so you have level ground to work off, it's easier for setting up scaffolding to get the second lift

Hi. If by sub-floor you mean the structural concrete slab or beam and block floor, this should be done first. Sequence should be foundations, substructure walls, slab / B&B, dpc superstructure walls, roof and windows (ie building watertight), membrane insulation, screed.
