Wood glued over flat roof - will this last?
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.44 PM
Our builder told us he used glue to attach treated wood over flat GPR garage roof in order to extend our pitched porch roof over front of garage (he built the frame in wood and glued it over the GPR flat roof). Is this acceptable, to use glue to attach wood? My concern is that its not strong enough and our new pitched porch roof would fly away in a storm from the glue giving away
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No this isn’t acceptable and you are correct there is a slim chance it might fly off in a bad storm, very unlikely but why take that risk?
To be inline with building regulations the rafters need to be attached to the wall plate/flat roof joists which in turn will be attached to the wall plate.
M8 bolts should be used to attach rafters to joists or equivalent meaty fixings like coach bolts or timber lock screws etc, and wall plates should be bolted and fixed into the masonry wall with chemical resin, additional wall ties should also be used at 2meters spacing.
If in doubt contact your local council and ask to speak with building control officer.
Hope this helps
