Patio Paving Layout
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.44 PM
Hi, I am preparing to lay slate paving slabs to my patio area. The slabs have come in 4 sizes but are all exact eg. 300 x300 - 600 x300 - 600 x 600 - 900 x 600 hence when I try to plan the random pattern there is sometimes no room for the gaps in between. Can you help please? John

Hi those slabs do come with they own diagram/ drowning but if the area that your Laing the slabs is smaller or bigger you will need to cut the slabs according to the finishing edge and the spaces between the slabs should be 10mm all around hope that helps

Usually, the 300 x 300 slabs and the 300 x 600 slabs you're stating would be 290x290 / 290 x 600. So it's strange this isn't the case. Worst case scenario, have a maximum joint width of 10mm, and then a 5mm joint where some of the slabs will overlap. Joint with an exterior tile grout.

The smaller slabs ie 300x 300 should be 290 x 290 to allow for the pointing joint check the slabs to see if you have any 290s in the pack as it is difficult to get in all to line up some times.
You can cut them if needed to make these 290mm or leave the small square ones out of the patio as you will only lose around 2mq in full patio kit.
The joys of a patio 😀
Hope that helps
