Hi there,
I’m installing 2 new electric heaters Rointe D Series 1600W and 1430W. I’m connecting them directly to a 13 Amp switched spur unit with flex out that used to run storage heaters on economy 7. I’m replacing the cable straight from the heater itself with a 2.5mm one. The positioning isn’t ideal as it isn’t matching the old storage heaters locations. What’s max length that I can use for a direct connection, no plugs, no cuts, wall to heater? Is 360cm too long on a 2.5mm cable for the 1430w one? From the manufacturer it comes with about 150cm plug connection.
Obviously not an electrician but advanced enough to change my light switches/plugs etc, small diys.
Many thanks
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
You only need a 1.5mm flex given the kw rating. The distance you specified that you want is far too long to be safe, as you might just as well have an extension lead floating across the floor. The manufacturers length of flex is as it is as it’s designed to be terminated in a local socket/spur.

Willow you do not void warranties cutting off plugs. Thats nonsense. They are put there purely for the convenience of installation so people can plug them in. There is no mystical reason other than that. If for example an electrician wanted to use a fused spur thats perfectly safe and perfectly ok. It is not mandatory to have a plug, just convenient.
The main question is not if 350cm of 2.5mm cable support 1430w,because it will do.
The problem is the overall regulation that you have to think about.
If the maker sell the heater with 150cm cable and not longer there is a reason for that.
I would suggest you to leave the cable of the heater as it is and fit a new socket near by.
The new socket can come out from another socket but it has to be connect as part of the ring circuit so it would be better to get an electrician involved to do so.
Soon as you cut of the manufacturer’s plug or manage to open the entire unit up you will void any warranty offered by the company. Just change over the spur to a single socket. Waste of time paying out for rointe’s if your just gonna use then as night storage. Change the circuits in the board so are permanently fed.
