Door closer to door with parliament hinges

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.44 PM

I have a double door with parliament hinges on and have been asked to fix a closer to. The question is has anybody fit a closer to a door with parliament hinges before and if so which type? I'm thinking a concealed overhead closer but not sure if the arm could stand the kickround from the hinges. Any advise would be much appreciated.

Hi, You are right, that you may run into fouling issues with the overhead closer. I would suggest a "perko" closer. If you are not familiar with these, they fit to the frame and door edge, simply by drilling a 25mm hole. They operate via a bike type chain and hidden spring and can only be seen when the door is open. The extra throw of the hinges, shouldn't be an issue with a perko, but double check as you can adjust the chain length to suit the close speed. You can double up for large doors or they also come as a 2x chain closer and can be fire rated if needed. Hope that helps.

If one is prepared to spend about £90, you can buy a double swing hinge set that has a built in closer, actually within the hinge itself. I have fitted a few and works out cheaper in the long run.
