Gas Fire Installation

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.24 PM

I have recently had a new hole in the wall gas fire fitted. The fitter has not connected a flue adaptor or connected it to the existing flue, as we requested. The fire glass front is condensing up and smoke is coming from the top of the fire. The fitter said that it was because the fire was new and this would stop, it hasn't. He also wanted our roofers to remove the flue, they didn't. I have getting advice about this and they said NOT to use the fire as we could get carbon monoxide poisoning. I asked the fitter if he had done a test on the flue and chimney. He paused and answered Yes. Then he said that checking the flue and chimney was our responsibility. I have asked the fitter to return and rectify this problem. He said that he had to go to London and that he would contact me when he got back, he didn't know when that would be. What can I do?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. Do not use this fire. Contact gas safe register immediately to see if he is registered and ask for an inspection to be carried out.

Do not use the appliance under any circumstance. If the fitter will not return to do the work, please contact the Gas Safe Register via the website or telephone

Sounds like you an an unsafe installation there and you should not use the fire. Report the fitter to Gas Safe & get them to come check as a matter of urgency. Sounds like he didn’t know what he was doing which is worrying.
