Mould in my alcove cupboard

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.24 PM

Hello I had shelves and draws build in to my alcoves in living room, one of the cupboard mould is appearing, but not on the other one, I think this might be due to holes in the other cupboard for access to wires and plugs, but not sure. The wall its build too is an exposed wall so can get very cold.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Mould can only be caused by condensation. Condensation is influenced by temperature and air exchange . I’ve had a lot of success by gluing 15mm polystyrene board to the walls between the shelves .

Most likely there is something on the back and it should be removed and the cabinet will close, but you should not look at the spokesperson.

Hi how’s you , yes you would need vents or holes in it to let the air flow , it being a cold wall wouldn’t help and there may also be heating pipes running down one side of the fire breast to a old back boiler depending how and if they where stopped off there could be heat in these , but either way vents to let the air from the room flow through should cure your problem

The mould is probably caused by lack of ventilation, and a high humidity level, I would suggest drilling some discreet holes in the underside and the top, this would help with the airflow, I would also look at the airflow in the rest of the room
