Windows & Door fitting

Condensation on new windows with vents

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.40 PM

Hi there, we had some Windows fitted in April and paid extra for deceuninck as they guy we brought them from was pretty insistent they were the best. We asked whether it would be beneficial to have trickle vents installed as we had horrendous issues with damp and condensation, particularly in mine and my partners bedroom. Naively, we didn't consider that the trickle vents would let as much sound in as it does if the windows are open, we assumed there would be some kind of filter in them that let air circulate but still prevented, at least, some of the outside noise. I'll take that as we should have done our research before hand. The issue now, is now that weather is getting colder, we woke up this morning and our window was completely covered in condensation on the inside to the point it was dripping from the handles. The window in my two year old sons room as also very condensated and that has never been an issue before. The vents in both rooms had been open overnight as well. Is this normal? Or a fault with the windows? Or something else i need to get a damp specialist in to have a look at? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Make sure the trickle vents have been fitted correctly and indeed the holes go all the way through the UPVC frame. You shouldn't have the condensation you have described but maybe the seals have gone but it n a new window that would be unlikely also the glass being compromised shouldn't be an issue. A physical inspection would be needed to try and locate the fault or faults before any concrete advice could be given. The windows should be under warranty I would have thought your first port of call is the providers.

The only way condensation appears inside the double glazed unit is because the seals have failed.

Did you have an issue with condensation before the new windows were fitted? If you did then maybe worth looking at the cause. Might be worth getting a dehumidifier. As others have said it will still be worth getting the windows checked to make sure the vents have been fired properly

Do you have blinds or curtains? Cold air can get trapped between the glass and the blinds/curtains which can cause the condensation as the air can not flow properly
