Intermittent smell from around toilet

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

We had bathroom fitted over a year ago and smell started pretty much straight away coming from around wall hung toilet that sits on vitra reduced height frame which is boxed and tiled. We had it fixed but we’re left with a huge leak beneath and now are quite cautious about the solutions we are offered. Two plumbers who came recently gave us contradicting opinions: one is that multi quick connection that goes into soil pipe is fitted incorrectly and general installation of the pipes is not compliant. Second one said that multiquick connection is just got dislodged and once it fitted again there will be no issue. We are at our wits end with this issue and have toilet off for the second week with the smell now everywhere in the house. There are pictures but I cannot attach them. I would appreciate if someone could advise.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

When there is a drain smell (foul) this must be a connection issue . Be prepared to uninstall look at the connection and Address the solution with investment of a engineers time . There could be a glaze problem with the connection of the WC connector a incorrect fitting of a product . Environmentally this need to be corrected . 30 years of Running Installations and fitting be a human error ,not deliberately. Hope you get sorted happy to give time with you if required.

Both answer can be correct but also where you had a leak from previous it may have left a famp smell but with exposing it and having a look we would get a better idea also it it has been dislodged your toilet bowl would be filling up as it would restrict the flow

Has the toilet got a soil stack vent or is it a Durgo valve on the pipe trapping the fowl air from exiting outside..

Really a problem that needs a site visit Soil pipe connections should not usually be a problem Providing access to the soil connections are visible after removing tiles and box work the position of the leak should be easily established Use quality new pan connections and problem should be solved Unfortunately without removing some tiles and box work you are not going to be able to solve this situation
