Leak from roof - slate tiles pitched roof

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

Hello, during the heavy rain a couple of days ago I noticed a leak from the ceiling, coming from the loft of my terraced house. I looked through the loft hatch and noticed a few gaps (i can see daylight), although not directly above the wet patches on the ceiling. I wouldn’t want to do too much work to the roof as I am planning to do a loft convertion, hopefully within a year. What would be your advice to protect against leaks until the loft conversion? Many thanks Roberta

Ask a roofer to inspect and replace some damage slates because that's all it will be

With being able to see daylight, I'm assuming there is no felt? The daylight area might not actually be the cause of the problem if the slates/tiles have the correct lap and aren't damaged. Best option would be to ask a local roofer that provides free quotes and inspections and hope that they can locate the problem.

Contact a roofer to inspect the roof and replace damaged or missing slate. Also you may be able to see daylight as old slate roof don't usually have felt.
