Chimney cowels for roof tops
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.01 PM
So basically I have had my chimney capped off using some roofing felt material that was templated. What I wish to know is do these still require venting if not in use. The 4 chimney breasts have already been removed to make rooms bigger. If so what type of chimney cowl would you recommend:- clay or metal. I really don't want to spend too much money. Also what merchants sell them. Post your comments below please..
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You need to vent the chimney to stop the condensation building up and causing damp/mould, this can sometimes look like the chimney is leaking too.
If you still have chimney pots are recommend C caps which are around £35 each, if you haven’t got pots anymore then you need to install air bricks, this may involve scaffolding depending where the chimney is on the roof and the access.
If it’s a simple ladder & roofer ladder job you could expect to pay around £200 for one C cap to install most chimneys need 2/3 caps so that price could increase by up to £90, air bricks will be more costly and so will installing pots and getting scaffolding.
