Recurring shadow marks on all external walls, where the mortar lines surround the blocks

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.42 PM

Ever since the detached brick and flint house was built in 1990 we have had to more often than normal redecorate (emulsion paint) all the exterior walls, the faces internal to the house. Over the years we have experimented with various solutions - stain block paint, vinyl paint etc without success. The shadow stains will "wash" off, but we are looking for a more permanent solution, we are fed up having to redecorate every 3 years. Although I am no expert the stains look as though they are being caused by an electrostatic effect, perhaps something special about the mortar they used between the thermalite/lytag (sic) blocks. Can anyone suggest a solution or visit to give advice, Regards Steve Gould

There’s apparently a product called ‘Zinzer Bin’ that is meant to lock in stains that can then be painted over once dry. Might be worth a try?

Your saying you put emulsion on the walls and vynl emulsion. You need to put masonary paint on other's are for internal decorating.

Yea paint all walls with zinzer cover stain 2 coats I would then paint with emulsion , perhaps try a bedroom wall first to see if the zinzer works , when the emulsion is painted on it will need 2 coats the first coat will take a bit of a while to dry dew to the zinzer , coverstain will work I have never seen it fail
