Window Reveal Cladding

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.42 PM

I'm renovating a property I recently bought, most of the property has gone back to bare brick and is going to be plaster boarded, whilst we're at it we like the look of cladded window reveals with architrave around them. I'm sure this is a fairly common thing to do, but there isn't a lot of clear advice about it online. I could just run out and grab some MDF or something to do this, but I'd like to avoid any potential pit falls from using the wrong materials or methods. Are there any products on the market for this purpose, or failing that is there a particular type of board I should be using? It's an older property with cavity walls, the windows are recessed quite deep so the reveals would probably be 5 or 6" deep.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello, I have never come across a specialist product for this purpose, so I would have said using MDF to fit in the reveal and for the architrave around it would be fine.

Hello, I agree with the previous answer, the only thing I would add is, if you have any damp/moisture issues then MDF will not stand up to this and will not last long, in this case wood would be a better option, obviously try to eliminate any moisture issues, if confident you have no moisture problems then MDF will be fine.

I would only add that if I was going to use MDF I would go for the green moisture resistant board, the only other way I have seen it done in uPVC fascia board
