connecting joist to rafter on top of a wall plate correct size coach screw needed?

Hi thankyou before hand for any responses most appreciated. im replacing 4x2 old joist with 6.2 c24 i have fitted restraints straps all around room to wall plate and screwed 12 x 4" screw from under 2x4 wall plate on angle into rafter birds mouth to secure rafters before removing old 4x2 joist! my question is what size hex coach screw length? and thickness? would i need to screw joists into side of rafters on top wall plate the thickness of joist and rafter together is 95mm. many thanks

Hi you really need to contact local authority building inspector for that detail.

hi there, i would probably suggest it to be a minimum of M10 x 120mm with a dog tooth washer fitted, but its probably better to get a building inspector to check and recommend.

I would suggest using m12 x 130mm bolts & square washers which is what building control would request , you can also use 2 no.10mm x 100mm timber lock screws instead of bolts. Metal truss clips securing the rafters to wall plate with twist nails is also common practice
