Bricking up fire place, can we can GC2 Cowl?
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.44 PM
Hi, We are looking to have an old gas fire removed, and brick up the fireplace. Will we need the chimney capped, or does the GC2 cowl still do the job?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

To avoid damp the stack will need to breath . The gas cowl is fine as long as it allows air to circulate from the bottom to the top of the chimney . You will need a vent in the bricked up area to allow for this .

There will be a liner in the chimney which will need to be removed , the gas cowel will then work with a bottom vent to keep the chimney dry .
May need to have some of the cowel vents blanked / reduced , depending on size , you only need a trickle of air up the chimney .
