3 of 8 radiators not working after disconnecting and reconnecting one

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.43 PM

We recently removed a cast iron rad off the bathroom wall to paint behind. It was off for maybe a week max. We reconnected and repressurised the system and now 3 of our rads aren't heating up at all (they don't seem to need bleeding) they are all completely cold. The 2 upstairs ones are working fine and the other 6 rads are downstairs and 3 not working. The bathroom one we removed and replaced is working fine! Any ideas?!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Shut off all the rads that getting hot and see if that works. If not you’ll need a plumber to check the pins in the TRV’s aren’t stuck (if you have them), balance the system or remove an air lock

Air lock probably needs bleeding or pulling thru with a wet vac

If you have refilled your rad then it could be a air lock.Turn all rad off bar one which is not working turn your heating on. The air in your system should go into the rad then turn on the next rad.But then turn off the first one (do the same for each rad) watch your pressure on your boiler if you have a combi. It Yeahis the same on a vented system (one with a tank in the loft (remember turn on second rad before you off the first one so you have a open system)

The system sounds as if it is blocked with sludge. You will need to get the system power flushed which will remove the years of oxidation sludge build up. If water was black when you drained down it will be a sludge build up
