How many layers of wallpaper / what is this job?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.43 PM

Hi there. Have removed a small section of painted wallpaper of an old wall to try and understand how much wallpaper there is. Trying to ascertain how big the job is so I can get an accurate quote. I think underneath there is a layer or two of paint that has come off and is flaking. Is there any way to avoid this? How much harder is it going to be to fix this wall if it's all flaking?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

without taking the paper off its really impossible to say how good or how bad the wall is, if the paper will come of easy or if it will bring the plaster with it, get a few decorators round to look and asses the situation

There is no easy way. All the paper will need to be removed. The flaky paint will come off with paper but will leave a patchy finish. You will then need to skim over with easy-fill then sand to a smooth finish. The walls are then ready to paint or you can line the walls.

Crystal ball situation I'm afraid. Nobody can predict what is under that wallpaper. Try and get some quotes to remove it and go from there
