Which thickness / type of plywood should be laid under LVT click flooring?
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.43 PM
Hello, I am looking to install LVT click flooring through out the entire house on all floors, including the kitchen and ensuites. Please advise on the best thickness and type of plywood that should be used to prepare the floor so it is flat. Thank you.

If the floorboards are in decent/average condition, then I would recommend 6mm plywood, nailed with ring shank nails every 6inches (4 inch on the edges )

As a standard we would double check all the floor board’s for any movement and screw down if needed then top with 12.5mm structural hardwood ply also known as WBP PLY

Hi Andrew, as most others have said 5.5 - 6mm ply, (after having checked for pipes / cables beneath & fixing loose boards). I then tend to use a decent rubber underlay on click LVT, (unless pre-affixed to the underside). Also, be aware, you DEFINITELY need an expansion gap with click, the same as you would with laminate.Hope this helps, Chris M-W.
